Luna vs COMPLY

Everything RIA in a Box makes you sign for, without signing.

COMPLY's own materials say every RIA in a Box subscription needs an annual contract, a setup fee equal to a month's subscription, and a paid license for every employee. Advisers rated it 6.5 out of 10 for satisfaction in the 2025 Kitces Report, the lowest score in its category. Luna's prices are on the page, it runs month to month, and you can be inside it today.

Why advisers choose Luna over COMPLY

01

No contract, no setup fee, no per-employee license

COMPLY's sheet requires an annual contract, a setup fee equal to a month, and a license for each additional employee. Luna is month to month, has no setup fee, and includes 2, 10 or 25 people by plan, then $25 a person.

02

Marketing review is software, not a consulting add-on

COMPLY lists review of marketing materials under its optional Enhanced consulting service. Every paid Luna plan reviews advertisements against the Marketing Rule, cites the rule and the slide, and drafts the disclosure.

03

Built for the state you answer to

Luna fits the calendar to your registration, adds reviewed deadlines for your states and the IARD renewal dates, cites each state's rules, and flags testimonials where your state still bans them.

04

The parts RIA in a Box's site does not show

An MNPI register with a daily SEC filing check, an SEC exam workspace that splits the request letter into owned, dated items, anonymous Speak up reporting, and a separate deployment for every firm.

In COMPLY's own words

“All subscriptions require an annual contract billed on a monthly basis and a one-time set-up fee equal to the monthly subscription fee.”

“In practice, these leading vendors are the lowest rated in the category, suggesting that their acquisitions and rapid growth may have expanded their advisor base faster than the technology could evolve to meet those expanded needs.”

Questions

Does COMPLY publish RIA in a Box pricing?
Not on comply.com when we checked; its pricing URL returns a 404 and the product page offers a demo. Its 2024 sheet sets out the terms instead: an annual contract, a setup fee equal to a month's subscription, and a license per additional employee.
Is there an RIA in a Box alternative without an annual contract?
Luna runs month to month with no setup fee, and you cancel from inside the product. Paid plans are $199, $699, $1,499 a month, and the calendar plan is free.
How did RIA in a Box rate in the Kitces Report?
6.5 for satisfaction and 6.4 for value, out of 10, in the 2025 Kitces Report, against a category average of 7.4 and 7.7. Kitces named it its one Pessimistic provider to watch in RIA compliance.
How long does it take to move from RIA in a Box to Luna?
Sign up and your calendar is set up for your registration type and your states the same day. Luna drafts your policies from your answers about how the firm runs, and can read your filed Part 2A to propose your firm's rules, so there is no manual to rebuild by hand. Keep your old system's records as long as the books and records rules require.
